The concept is easy. Extending your rides using the public transportation network on the west coast. From California to Canada, there are trains and buses that can expand the range of your biking. I am not a century rider (100+ miles at a time), but by using public transit, I have been able to do bike trips, from 25-60 miles a day, throughout the US and Canada.
With this site, you can choose from a variety of bike trips on the west coast, made easier using some form of public transportation.
