Astoria reminds me of San Francisco with its steep hills, Victorian homes, and a hill surrounded harbor filled with cargo ships. It’s become a popular tourist destination wiht the population growth in Portland. Despite the steep hills, there a few easy rides that can be done around town.
Primarily, I enjoy the bike path that runs the waterfront. To the east, the path passes the sea lion docks and some lovely waterfront homes until you reach Tongue Point. There seems to be somewhat of a restriction on riding Tongue Point so, if you can’t get in, just follow the path west through town until you get to the Young’s River bridge.
For a little more exploration, you can continue to and over the Old Young’s river bridge to the intersection.
Outside of these easy rides, you can choose any kind of workout you like by heading into the hills or up to the column. Comfort yourself in knowing that any uphill effort will be rewarded with a downhill roller coaster.
